I have been profoundly deaf since birth. In order to understand what is being said, I read lips, and I often miss important details, despite the fact that I wear a hearing aid. I compensate this by looking for visual clues such as body language, facial expressions and context.
I have incorporated my experience of deafness into my works by exploring my fascination with words by studying body language, facial expressions, sound waves, spectrograms and using them as a visual imprint in my paintings.
