Join us in celebrating International Day of Persons with Disabilities at our 4th Annual Public Gathering!
International Day of Persons with Disabilities (or IDPD), was introduced by the United Nations in 1992 to celebrate the accomplishments and achievements that persons with disabilities contribute to our community.
The purpose of IDPD is to:
– Promote an understanding of disability issues;
– Mobilize support for the dignity, rights and well-being of people with disabilities; and,
– Increase awareness of the value of integrating people with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic, and cultural life.
Many organizations that work with the disability community host events around Vancouver (and worldwide), but those events are mainly indoors which is part of the reason we choose to brave the outdoors to celebrate. Part of the challenge when living with a disability is simply to be seen, so the aim of our event is to bring visibility to the disability community and the day through our public gathering. This is a casual event where those who live with disabilities and those who are allies of the disability community can come together to celebrate!
When: Tuesday December 3rd 2018 12pm – 2pm
