sb. smith
sb. smith (she and they) is a fat, genderqueer, bisexual, mad, and disabled person of poor, chronically-ill Scottish and Irish descent living on Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh land (known as Vancouver, British Columbia).
They were the editor of Disabled Voices Anthology (Rebel Mountain Press, 2020), and her writing and/or artwork has been published in Arc Poetry Magazine, Maclean’s, antilang., Rooted in Rights, Portal, Sad Girl Review, Navigator Student Press, and more.
They are an interdisciplinary culture worker centring disabled narratives relating to her own personal experience. She approaches all work using a disability justice theoretical framework and strives to create cultural works for other disabled people to meaningfully engage with. Ultimately, she believes the art and culture of the disabled community is life-giving. Their creative practice spans and bends genres to include poetry, theoretical inquiry and study, mixed-medium visual arts, music, and much more.
