10×5: Art & Disability An Artist Talk 2020

Meghan Carich

Statement: I have found myself inspired by the deep psychological and sensitive areas in one’s life. The life lessons we all face in one time or another, as well as the need to overcome and the drive to make ideas and dreams real are also very symbolic to my art.

Being raised in Saskatchewan and the Yukon Territories, I was been influenced by native culture throughout my life. I am touched by raw art, I find there is something extraordinarily deep, thoughtful and expressive in the delivery of old art forms.

Because I was quite ill as a baby, I was delayed in my learning and became a contented child watching life around me. Trying to understand the natural order of my life, I was told not to expect what other people did but find my own parameters, that there was much more to her picture than the different scenes being played out in front of me.

I am introspective and open to beauty as well as the complexity and systems of nature. My journey has been filled with unique twists and turns and a lot of bumps.  I became a self-taught artist out of sheer determination to over come the many obstacles I have had to face.   I find art very healing.
